Where have all the gentlemen gone?

March 8, 2009

I was bringing my mom to the subway to the airport, and as we approached the three flights of stairs, a man offered to carry up my mother’s suitcase. She politely declined, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer, and picked up my mother’s bag and carried it up the stairs.

“Is this okay?” She mouthed at me.
“It’s fine.” I think I had no idea, but the worst that could happen was he tried to run away with her bag and I would have to chase him down. He was kind of old; I could take him.

He gave her back her bag at the top of the stairs.
“Thank you! They just don’t make gentlemen like that anymore.” My mother said.
“You’re quite welcome.” He said with a smile.

I think my mother was right.
